MERGE Summer Tour: Big Red

Well, Big Red (if you haven't guessed already) was at the J-Town Lighthouse. We went up 105 steep steps of MADNESS. It was amazing. A big thank you to Marcos, who made this all happen. Wes found a funky looking flatworm and captured it in a cup for all to see. We played some volleyball at a court that was right on the beach. Jeff had mad skillls, while Taya and her team used the phrase "If it looks cool, do it".
In the midst of it all, the smiley-faced ball got stuck in a humungo tree so Aaron Mondock climbed up like a monkey and with the help of him and all the guys throwing balls at the tree we got it down after about 10 minutes.
We ate mystery hot dogs that ended up to be a mixture of chicken and pork. Yummm. The devo. Chris taught was to choose carefully who you are around, and choose your friends wisely.
Next week is going to be at the Church in The Farms and sorry guys, you need your own ride. Chris is going to be recovering from some serious surgery on his knee, and won't be able to drive the bus. Carpool if you can.
Hope to see you all there!!

Munky's Camp Journal: Day 4

It was last day of camp, and it was the latest I woke up. I had breakfast and went for my quiet time, and to celebration. We had won the spirit hammer, and held it with pride. We had to make a run to Walmart before we went to the Girls and Boys club because we were getting a new basketball hoop for the kids. When we got there, each team set apart and went to set up what there were going to do. The program team had set up some games that we could play the night before including father Abraham, duck duck goose, an the dating game. Wes had also spoke at the end of the time we had with them about how God is always there knocking at your hart at specific times. Aaron Mondok had came near the end, when he had only got back from San Francisco at 9:00 this morning. We left around 3:00 and were all a little bummed about leaving. When we got back, most of the boys went to the pool, but I stayed back so i could wash some clothes. I went to dinner at 3:50, and talked with an old friend from camp last year. When I got back I took a nap but slept too long and woke up at 8:20. When I got there there was only about 20 minutes left and i came in to a story about a kid water skiing I think. Roger was there but had to leave because he had a student from the church he goes to with him. We went to Elizabeth hall for our church group time to find that Chris had gotten us Sonic cheese burgers and chili cheese dogs (those sure went off well with the guys). After eating we talked about what we could do to keep the same attitude for longer than just this week, but for months, and even years to come. I hope to maybe some way help with the First Priority club at Dwyer High School next year and I'm maybe thinking about doing something to help with kids this summer, because for the past couple of months I have been helping with the 2 year olds in the youth ministry at Calvary Chapel. We ended the meeting with Aaron speaking about what God was doing in his life over the last few months he has been gone. We went back to our dorms, got ready for bed, and had mad rave party's.

Munky's Camp Journal: Day 3

So here it is a new day, new things about to happen. I woke up late this morning so I had to rush to breakfast, yet had enough time to enjoy it. We again had a quiet time and celebration. We almost won the spirit sledge this morning, but it went to the purple team. We'll definately get it tomorrow. When we got to the Girls and Boys club, they weren't there because they were at the movies and would be back at 12:00. We all were assigned to specific groups including the Rec team, the Program team, and the Maintenance team. I was on the program team so I didn't see much that was going on outside. The Program team had a hard time getting organized because either someone didn't have too many ideas or not any good ideas. All in all we still came up with some good games including One Word, DING, and Walk the Line. We then went out side and played with the kids for the rest of the time outside. We left again at about 3:00 and again were tired. The events for free time were student choir, soccer, Q&A with the band, and meeting the drama team. I just took a nap and went to dinner at about 4:00. It was raining after dinner so we had our family group meetings in Ross's dorm room. We were off to celebration and didn't expect too much more than what been going on. It turned out that it was a seriously emotional time for many who had confessions that they may of thought were to great to be forgiven, but found out that no sin is unforgivable by Jesus. I myself have had a great deal of trouble with anger and was crying out for help. Our church group meeting was also emotional for people who were sharing what God had changed in them during the night. We talked about how our day at the Girls and Boys club and what we could improve for tomorrow. Soon I will be going to bed, but now, I must go to a Goldfish party.

Munky's Camp Journal: Day 2

Another day, another early start. If you wanted to eat in the morning you would have to do it between 6:45 and 8:00. Breakfast was all fun and good, pancakes, doughnuts, eggs and sausage for all who came (mostly eggs for Julia). I have found out that i have a drinking problem for I can't get a drink without spilling it. It seems as i have bad luck wit orange soda. After breakfast was over, we met in a group for about 5 minutes for Pastor Chris to tell us what we need to be doing in our quiet times each mourning. When were finished, we went to celebration and I found out that the 80's scare me, very much so. We learned a new rap theme for our team the gold team afterwords from our team leader and headed off for the Girls and Boys Club. Many people expected different things, like how the kids would react to us and the stuff we would be doing. The thing I think caught most peoples surprise was the location and the size of the building. It wasn't something that some of us were used to. It gave us a new aspect and reason why we should be thankful for what we have. The kids their ranged for 5 to about 14. It didn't take too much time for most of them to warm up too us as we started with a game of medic. We played about 4 or 5 games then went off basically scattering the group to do what they were there for. Some kids played basketball, some boardgames, and others some of the video games they had like Super Mario. After awhile we had lunch and then played tug of war. We then went and watch a skit put on by Taryn, Wes, Ross, and Jake Bailey. They also had a few games they had for us. We had a rematch game of tug of war afterwords because the girls one the first game (they had Julia the heavyweight champ). Of course the men won, twice to make it the best of three. Afterwords, we broke off again to hang out with the kids that were there. We left at around 3:00 and returned to camp very tired. Some people went to the different free time events, others went swimming, and some like myself just stayed at the dorms and rested. I left for dinner at 4:00 and waited for the doors to open, and had a big dinner. Two slices of pizza, a hot dog, some pasta, a chicken leg, two puddings and a piece of cake. I was very hungry. After words I waited at the dorm for Christian Rob, George, Anthony, and Ross so we could go to our family groups. We went to that nights celebration, met a bear lady and watched Rush disappear and appear. After worship we went to our church groups and had milk and cookies. The night had been through and all that was left was to make a quick drink run and sleep.

Munky's Camp Journal: Day 1

For some on the morning of June 4th, 2007, it was an early morning, for at 7:00 they were to catch a bus. A bus, to camp. Many who rode on this trip were half awake, and were slow to talking. It wasn't long before the camera broke out though, and snapped a couple pictures of its sleeping victims. The trip was only about two hours containing word games, music, and the Lion King. When we arrived at the highly anticipated site of meeting, there was little tension, between the heat and a little bit of confusion on the parking. All and all we started the morning with the registration. There then was a journey to Moe's Southwest Grill for food and drink. Then came the orientation, and afterwords dinner. The was a family group meeting after dinner and then celebration. A quick review of what was to come for the week followed afterwords. Then it was time to sleep.
