MERGE: 1/24

Tonight we played a ridiculous version of chaotic Duck, Duck. Goose. It sure was good whacking people with a foam noodle! Jeff and the band lead us in some praise and worship. It's great that there are students who aren't afraid to get hyped about Jesus. Bouncing during our worship time is a blast. If you haven't bounced yet, I dare you! Chris (me) then continued the study "Heaven & Hell". We discussed the people we will interact with in Heaven (our brothers and sisters in Christ); there will be NO marriage in Heaven; it will be all about Jesus. Good stuff. Next week we will continue with more on Heaven. You dont want to miss it! One more thing, are you going to camp? If so get some $$$ in some to secure your spot. Prayers.

Super Bowl Party

On Sunday,February 4th we will take over the cafeteria at Independence Middle School to eat lots of food and watch the Super Bowl. The cost is only $5.
DJ Dylan will be spinning pregame and there will but tons of give aways. the coolest part of the party is the fact that we will be partying for a good cause through the Souper Bowl of Caring as all proceeds will go to Urban Youth Impact.

Overcoming Fear

2 Timothy 1:7 says "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and discipline." One of my biggest fears is facing a group of my peers. To be watched with judging eyes. My goal when I felt uncomfotable or self-conscious was to be invisible. I was so afraid of standing out that I was neglecting to do what was right. Knowing something had to change, I began to pray for God to give me the strength and courage I needed. He began to answer my prayers. I felt the changes taking place inside me. I cannot explain the wonderful feeling when you know God is working in you. Though I still experience moments of fear, I know that I am never alone and that my strength and courage lies in Christ.

This past Wednesday we had our first MERGE of the New Year. We played the game "Pin-Head" and Mike Miller pulled off an astounding 24 clothes pins on his face! Jeff lead us in worship along with Monica, Addison and DJ Dylan and Pastor Chris started teaching a series on "Heaven & Hell". We learned that Heaven is a real place that is separate from the earth (Genesis 1:1), it is the dwelling place of God and it is a Christians final destination, our place of citizenship. We will go into depth for two weeks about Heaven. We learned that Hell is also a real place. Hell is referred to in the Bible as Sheol (place for the unrighteous dead), Hades (unrighteous dead) and Gehenna (a firey destination for the dead). Gehenna is the most extreme destination referred to by Jesus. Gehenna was a firey, discusting dump outside of Jerusalem. It was a place notorious for being an incinerator of dead bodies and had a well know stench. Next week we will go more in depth with Hell. What is it? Who goes there? When will they go there?
