High School Campout.
We went camping about 15 miles west of Okeechobee on the Kissimmee River. There were about 30 of us or so and we arrived around 7 PM on Friday. After eating, we got situated in our tents then had a campfire where Aaron Mondok shared with us about contentment the lives that God has given each of us. Pastor Chris then gave students the opportunity to share with everyone what God has been doing in their lives. Ten or so students responded by sharing the stories of their lives and how Jesus has saved them and is doing a work in them, very cool stuff! Friday night was winding down and everyone went to sleep. It was about 1:30 am or so that the heavens opened up with a downpouring of rain and it continue to do so for the remainder of the night. Several of our tents were leaking and were overcome with water, making for a very interesting night to say the least! Saturday morning started with some Cosco muffins and OJ then a short devotional from P Chris out of the book of James. We talked about trials and their purpose. The afternoon was spend enjoying the river, rope climbing and playing various games (like Connect Four!) We left the campground later that afternoon with a sence of accomplishment. The accomplishment of deeper more meaningful relationships with eachother and most importantly, Jesus. Click here to see the pictures!! Name: calvarystudents Password: calvary1

Additives.

As Christians we must realize that it's not just about "I'm going to Heaven!" We must realize that it's about growing in God so that we can be more affective here on this planet. We studied what Peter (from the Bible) had to say about adding to your faith.
"For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins." 2 Peter 1:5-9

Preservatives.
This week we talked about having "staying power" as a Christian. This means, that in 5 or 10 years how can I have a preserved relationship with Jesus Christ. 8 out of 10 students walk away from their faith when as they get older. How can you prevent this from happening? We used the food product and I use food lightly, Spam as an example. Spam is meat in a can and has the ability to last for ages! One thing you can count on with Spam, it will have a serious shelf life. This is so because of the preservatives in the "meat". We can have the same "staying power" in our relationship with Jesus. Here are the 4 Keys to Preserving Your Faith:Study the Word - 2 Timothy 2:15
Ponder on His mercy - Psalm 89:1
Apply His Word - James 1:22
More faith - Hebrews 11:6
